Crypto Legions Integrates Chainlink VRF for Provably Random Gameplay

We’re excited to announce that Crypto Legions, the revolutionary play-to-earn game, has integrated Chainlink Verifiable Random Function (VRF) on the BNB Chain mainnet. By integrating the industry-leading decentralized oracle network, we now have access to a tamper-proof and auditable source of randomness needed to create a fair playing environment for all our users. Ultimately this creates a more exciting and transparent user experience, as users can enjoy playing a game supported by provable randomness.

Crypto Legions is a cutting-edge Play-To-Earn NFT game on BNB Chain, with a genius system for creating a sustainable game economy. In the Crypto Legions game, you need to summon warriors and beasts, and group them into legions to hunt monsters in order to earn BLOODSTONE, Crypto Legions’ native token. In the picture below, you can see that summoning and revealing beasts requires a secure random number generator to help ensure users cannot manipulate the system. That’s why we integrated Chainlink VRF to help ensure the in-game randomness is transparent and tamper-proof. Specifically, Chainlink VRF is used for all summoning and hunting functions inside the game.

It was important for us to integrate Chainlink VRF because, in order to have a fair element of chance within our game, we needed access to a secure random number generator (RNG) that any user could independently audit.

We selected Chainlink VRF because it’s based on cutting-edge academic research, supported by a time-tested oracle network, and secured through the generation and on-chain verification of cryptographic proofs that prove the integrity of each random number supplied to smart contracts.

Chainlink VRF works by combining block data that is still unknown when the request is made with the oracle node’s pre-committed private key to generate both a random number and a cryptographic proof. The Crypto Legions smart contract will only accept the random number input if it has a valid cryptographic proof, and the cryptographic proof can only be generated if the VRF process is tamper-proof. This provides our users with automated and verifiable assurances directly on-chain that the random chance elements within our game are provably random and were not tampered with by the oracle, outside entities, or the Crypto Legions team.
